Our week has had a camping theme. First of all, Jeff has six weeks left to earn his Arrow of Light, and one of his requirements is to help put up a tent. We thought that was done because he and Jim went on the Father's and Sons' Camp Out last May; but apparently Jim opted to sleep in the car to avoid the hassle of setting up the tent. Bryce and Brett were delighted with that decision when they got recruited to help remedy it.

"Help set up tent," check. The next thing on the list is to cook an outdoor meal over an open fire. Think he got that one done with Jim? Nope. They stopped at McDonald's on the way to the camp out. (Some camp out that was!) Looks like we'll be roasting hot dogs this week.
The Teachers and Priests went on their annual January camp out Friday and Saturday. It's really a party disguised as a planning meeting, but nobody's fooled. They mostly eat and play in the snow although a service project for the campground gets thrown in there, along with a tiny little bit of planning for the year.

Brett's sleeping bag came home as one giant sticky ball of dried Dr. Pepper. Like I said, it was a party!

The contention caused by the putting down of contention can be more contentious than the original contention.
Disclaimer From Jim: "Hey, Jeff wanted to go to McDonald's. HE lobbied ME to go to McDonald's. It was NOT my idea."

We are working on the same things. Nathan still has to cook an outdoor meal and light a fire. He claims he already lit a fire in his friends backyard but I didn't think it counted since it was a fire in the dirt with no adults present. Not really the scout way :)
